Party at the Park

Join Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation for their “Party at the Park” fundraiser Saturday June 26th from 2-8.  Live Music, food, a beer and wine garden, prizes, lost dog adoption and top dog contest.  Click here for the flier.

Arlington Named the #1 City for Families

Parenting Magazine just came up with their list of the top cities in the country for families. Arlington, Virginia topped the list primarily because of its quality education, low unemployment rates and low crime rates. For the complete report, view the website here.

Arlington in the Movies

Lubber Run Amphitheatre will be the site of a series of movies and TV shows featuring Arlington. The series, running most Fridays and Saturdays from June 18-July 24, will include shows that were filmed on location in Arlington as well as shows featuring Arlington actors like Sandra Bullock, Warren Beatty, Shirley MacLaine and Katie Couric.  The kick off on June 18th will include Former Arlington Film Commissioner and movie buff Rob Farr presenting film clips and photographs of Arlington as seen through the eyes of Hollywood Producers.  For a complete schedule, click here.

Great news from Newsweek's High School rankings.

All four Arlington high schools were ranked in the top two percent of high schools in the nation according to this year’s Newsweek rankings.  Based on The Washington Post challenge index ranking schools based on AP and IB tests, HB Woodlawn ranked highest among the Arlington schools followed by Washington-Lee High School, Yorktown and Wakefield respectively.  To view more information, see the Arlington Public Schools press release or the Newsweek article.

Air Force Cycling Classic June 12th and 13th

Clarendon Cup, Crystal Cup

This weekend the Air Force Cycling Classic will be held featuring two full days of riding and racing from kids to top pros.  Saturday rides will be on a 1 km course near the Clarendon Metro and Sunday’s races will be on a 12.5 km course in Crystal City.  Registration information is avaialble here.

It's World Cup Time!

And Summers Restaurant in the Courthouse area is one of the area’s best places to watch soccer. Every game will be played live as well as rebroadcast in the evening. Go to their website for the full schedule.  At least this year you don’t have to go at 3 in the morning to watch a game live. Go USA!

Crystal Screen Outdoor Movies Begin 6/7

Crystal Screen outdoor moviesThe Crystal City BID presents its 2010 free outdoor film festival on the Crystal Screen beginning Monday June 7th and continuing Mondays through 8/16.  This year’s theme is “Star Trek”.  Dine at area restaurants before the movie or bring a picnic.  More information can be found here.

Party in the Plaza

Arlington kicks off its “Party in the Plaza” in Rosslyn tonight, June 2nd, with live music, dancing and after-work drinks from 5:30-8:00  and continuing Wednesdays in June and July.   June will feature salsa music and July will bring swing music.  Click here for more information.
