BRGR Shack just opened in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington. 4215 Fairfax Drive. Open 11-10 daily. They serve grass-fed beef burgers, regular and sweet potato fries, salads, beer, and shakes. What’s YOUR favorite burger joint in Arlington, now that we have so many to choose from?

#296 – Come to Crystal Couture

 

 

Crystal Couture is a FREE event held each February that is part art exhibition, trendy nightclub, fashion show, and hip retail store all rolled into one. For 2013, the event will be held February 5th through 9th from 6-10 PM at the former Crystal City Food Court at 1750 Crystal Drive.   There will be a cash bar, body painting, hair and makeup makeovers, henna, DJ entertainment, runway shows, and 20 or more boutiques featured every evening.  Many will be selling their clothes right off the runway at great event prices.

Billiards Digest described Carpool in Ballston as “. . . a pop art testament to the American obsession of automobile culture that would make Lee Iacocca jealous.” Happy Hour prices M-F from 4-7 include Miller Lite for $2.75 and $3.50 selected premium beers with 1/2 price on selected appetizers.

#293 – Check out the Tuba and Euphonium Conference

Okay, this one’s for a select group but I try to provide something for everyone. If you are a tuba or euphonium player, or just enjoy listening to them, there is a four day Tuba and Euphonium Conference with sessions at Brucker Hall at Ft. Myer and Kenmore Middle School January 27-30. All sessions are free and open to the public and tuba/euphonium players are welcome to bring their instrument to the reading sessions. The 2nd Annual Pentagon Row Ice Gala will be held on Saturday, January 29th from 5-7pm featuring live music by Fools & Horses, merchant specials and giveaways, a photo booth, FREE hot chocolate & smoothies, strolling family entertainment including a stilt walker, magician, ice princess, and juggler, with a portion of the ice skating proceeds to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Capitol Chapter.

#291 – Attend a Concert at The Spectrum

See Dar Williams perform with IBIS Chamber Music

International singer/songwriter Dar Williams, “long a luminous presence in today’s pop-folk-indie music scene,” will be performing in a crossover concert with local Arlington talent IBIS Chamber Music Society January 30, 2011 at the Spectrum Theatre at the Artisphere with shows at 4:30 and 7:30.  Tickets are $35 and can be ordered online here or at The Artisphere box office.   The program will feature an exciting mix of original arrangements of Dar’s music as well as works by Gershwin, Piazzolla and Bernstein arranged for string quartet, voice and harp. This program was performed to a sell-out crowd in Boston last summer. When nice weather arrives it’s nice to eat outside.  Try the rooftop patio at Eventide in Clarendon. The rooftop serves its own distinct menu focusing on cool and chilled foods, summertime beers, refreshing outdoor cocktails and crisp wine selections.  Reservations are not accepted for the rooftop.  There is also a popular first floor lounge and an attractive second floor dining room with exposed terra cotta walls, high ceilings and soaring windows with theatre length velvet draperies.
