Arlington Artists Alliance Artful weekend at Fort CF Smith

Come to the Arlington Artists Alliance show “Artful Weekend at Fort CF Smith.” The catered opening reception is Friday, December 2nd, 2011 from 6-8pm, and the show runs all weekend Sat. Dec. 3rd (10-5) and Sunday Dec. 4th (12-4). This popular show features 40 Arlington artists! Arlington artist Sandi Parker‘s inMOTION: celebrating Arlington high school athletics is on display at Cassatt’s through 2/27. Her collection of original oil paintings include high school teams and individual athletes in a variety of sports from Washington-Lee and Yorktown high schools where her children are students. A percentage of proceeds will be donated to the schools.

Arlington County’s Parks and Recreations Department began taking online, fax and mail-in registration for Winter and Early Spring classes on December 14, 2010.  In Person and Phone-In Registration begins December 21st.  Check out the  listing of fitness, arts, dance, music, swimming and wellness options in their online catalog.

#223 – Unleash Your Inner Artist at ArtJamz

ArtJamz will be holding “The Crystal Ball Sessions” in Crystal City November 17, 18, 19, & 20 from 7:00 to 11:00 PM.  ArtJammers will take over the entire 12th floor of a building in Crystal City for the biggest and most creative ArtJamz session yet!   Register online to receive a canvas on an easel, paint and materials, and get four hours to create an original work of art – which is yours to take home.  Wine and soft drinks, hors d’œuvres, great music, and an ArtJamz host are included.

In addition, the Super Crystal Sessions will be held 12/2 – 12/4 from 7-11pm and KidsJamz will be held Sunday 12/5 from 10:30 – 2:00 pm.

Some of our region’s finest artists will have their works on display and for sale at the Lee Arts Center Annual Fine Art & Craft Show and Sale on Saturday, November 13 from 10-4 and Sunday, November 14 from noon -4. #220 – Shop for one-of-a-kind gifts or learn about the ancient art of raku by visiting the glaze tent where raku kilns will be set up to fire these unique ceramic works of art.

Columbia Pike Artist Studios, located in the Arlington Cinema ‘N Drafthouse Building, is open to the public during special events and by appointment. On Saturday, November 13  there will be a free gala and open house from 6 to 9 PM featuring 29 artists in their studios.

#183 – Check out Artisphere

A new art space in the old Newseum building in Rosslyn, Artisphere officially opens 10-10-10 with two days of free open houses.  The facility includes three galleries,three theatres, a 3000 sq. ft. ballroom, and an outdoor terrace.  The site will be used to showcase “thought-provoking, weird and wonderful arts activities” including “Skateboarding Side Effects”, weekly Salsa Tuesdays in the ballroom featuring regional and national bands, the Washington Shakespeare Company, comedy shows, a banjo and fiddle festival and the Aurora Opera currently presenting “The Secret Marriage”.

Lee Arts Center at 5722 Lee Highway in North Arlington has ongoing exhibitions, workshops, and open studios in pottery, ceramic sculpture, tilemaking, and printmaking.   The Center is open Monday & Friday from 9:30 am - 6 pm, Tuesday – Thursday from 9:30 am – 9 pm and Saturday from 9:30 am - 5 pm.
