#62 – Come to a Free Lunchtime Concert at Central Space in Rosslyn

‎Every Wednesday from June through August, the Rosslyn BID hosts a free lunch time concert at Central Space at the corner of Wilson Boulevard and N. Moore Street.  The “Sounds of the City” concerts begin at 11:45 and run until 1:30 and feature performances from a variety of pop and r&b groups.

#56 – Rock at the Row

The annual Rock at the Row Summer Concert Series will be held on Thursday nights from 7pm-9pm, July 17th through August 21st. The concerts have returned to the renovated plaza area at Pentagon Row this year.  Here is this summer’s lineup.

#248 – Enjoy Listening to Holiday Music

My dad would have listened to Christmas carols all year long (and sung along) if we let him, but always  made him wait till after Thanksgiving.  If you can’t get enough of holiday music, here are a plenty of opportunities to get your fill this holiday season:

The Arlington Children’s Chorus is presenting a Festival of Song on Sunday, December 12th, 2010 at 4PM at Clarendon United Methodist Church.

Home for the Holidays -Music at the Spectrum Theatre at Artisphere on Sunday December 12th at 4 PM– National Chamber Ensemble

Holiday Mayhem – Signature Theatre’s annual holiday cabaret runs from December 20th-23rd.

Prelude, the Arlington Youth Orchestral Program, will be presenting a Holiday Chamber Music Concert at Lyon Park Community Center on December 19th at 4 pm (free)

The Potomac Harmony Chorus, Arlington’s women’s barbershop chorus will be holding a holiday concert at Thomas Jefferson Community Center December 19th at 3 pm.

The Columbia Pike Community Chorus will be performing at Trinity Episcopal Church on December 19th at 4 PM.

Music To Cheer the Soul with Chorus, Brass and Bells will be presented by the Metropolitan Chorus on December 18th at 8PM at the Thomas Jefferson Theatre.

 

#49 – Enjoy free lunchtime concerts

Rosslyn BID and Rosslyn Renaissance sponsor Sounds of the City,  free lunchtime concert series, giving you plenty of opportunities to see live bands while you eat.

  • Every Thursday from mid-May – October from 11:45-1:30 at Wilson Blvd. and Oak Street.
  • Every Wednesday from June through August from 11:45-130  at Wilson Blvd. and N. Moore Street.

#44 – Have a picnic and listen to music at Potomac Overlook Park

Starting in late May and every other Saturday through the summer Potomac Overlook Park has musical performances from local groups.  There is no admission fee but donations of $5+ per person are requested to help fund the series.

#183 – Check out Artisphere

A new art space in the old Newseum building in Rosslyn, Artisphere officially opens 10-10-10 with two days of free open houses.  The facility includes three galleries,three theatres, a 3000 sq. ft. ballroom, and an outdoor terrace.  The site will be used to showcase “thought-provoking, weird and wonderful arts activities” including “Skateboarding Side Effects”, weekly Salsa Tuesdays in the ballroom featuring regional and national bands, the Washington Shakespeare Company, comedy shows, a banjo and fiddle festival and the Aurora Opera currently presenting “The Secret Marriage”.

#26-Enjoy live music every night at the Iota Club and Cafe

The Iota Club and Cafe in Clarendon offers live music every night. Admission to the club is on a first come first serve basis and cover charges generally range from $10-20.   Open Mic Night is  held every Wednesday from 8:00PM to 12:30AM and there is no admission charge.  There is also no charge for the cafe where dinner is served from 5-11 Sunday-Thursday and 5-12 Friday and Saturday.

Rosslyn Jazz Festival will be held on 9/11

The 20th annual Rosslyn Jazz Festival will be held at Gateway Park on September 11th. 2010.  This years lineup includes  Afro Bop Alliance performing Latin Jazz at 1:00, Jason Moran & the Bandwagon performing at 2:30,  Indie-rock and jazz fusion band The Bad Plus at 4:05 and Teirney Sutton Band at 5:45.
