The Garden Club of Virginia and The Garden Club of Fairfax are presenting the 78th Annual House and Garden Tour in Arlington & McLean, Virginia for Historic Garden Week on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 10-4.  Tours benefit the restorations of historic gardens and landmarks in Virginia.  According to the Historic Garden Week website, this year’s tour “will open a fascinating variety of homes and gardens. . . Architectural styles include Tudor Revival, modified Craftsman, cottage-rambler, Arts and Crafts, French Country, and one described by its owners as a “cross between a ranch and a Cape Cod on steroids.”   Some are creatively renovated houses from the mid-20th century, while others were only recently constructed.  Interior and garden designs are as eclectic as the exteriors, offering visitors a thoroughly enjoyable day of touring.”

The tour includes the following homes, all of which are open for the first time during Historic Garden Week:

The Ceckowski & Christie Home – 2560 Vermont Street, Arlington VA 22207

The Kimmitt Home – 2419 N. Fillmore Street, Arlington VA  22207

The Hickernell & Rose Home – 6710 N. 25th Street, Arlington VA 22213

The Coakley Home – 2114 Virginia Avenue, McLean, VA 22101

The Nichols Home – 6028 Chesterbrook Road, McLean, VA  22101

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the tour.  Advance tickets can be purchased at Calico Corners, Company Flowers Express Jewelers in Ballston Mall, Lemon Twist and Millie’s Dry Cleaning in Arlington.  Tickets can be purchase don the day of the tour at Memorial Baptist Church, 3455 N. Glebe Road, Arlington or any of the properties open for the tour.
