Take a Guided Walking Tour of George Washington’s Forest

Local historian Kevin Vincent leads a guided walking tour each year through the woodlands of Arlington, tracing the footsteps of George Washington, who purchased approximately 1,200 acres of forest in what is now Arlington County in the 18th century. The tour begins at the Ball-Sellers House — Arlington’s oldest standing structure — and covers about three miles and three hours, visiting the survey markers Washington used in 1785, a historic spring, and the site of a mill built by his step-grandson. All ages are welcome, no reservations are required, and the tour is free. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Watch Arlington Historical Society at arlhist.org for the date announcement, typically in the Spring.
