#347 – Watch “Arlington Idol”
The third annual Arlington Idol singing competition will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at Kenmore Middle School. Admission is free and open to the public. It will also be broadcast live on Comcast Cable Channel 72 and on the web. Each Arlington public high school selected one singer to participate in the contest and one runner-up to sing back up along with the US Army’s rock band “Downrage.” This year’s finalists are Mary Shields from H-B Woodlawn, Danyele Greenfield from Wakefield High School, Abir Haronni from Washington-Lee High School and Kate Mountain from Yorktown. Runners-up include Kyra Klontz of H-B Woodlawn,Tigist Worku of Wakefield, Mallory McKenzie of Washington-Lee and Rachel Gomberg from Yorktown. You will be able to cast your vote for Arlington Idol via text messaging. The link to watch online will be posted on the Army Band’s website the day of the competition along with voting instructions.

#344 – Go see the Harlem Wizards
It’s time for March Madness and there are plenty of opportunities to watch college basketball. But if that’s not enough, there is another opportunity to see basketball this month. The Harlem Wizards will be bringing their comedic routine of tricks, hoops and alley oops to Thomas Jefferson Community Center on Friday, March 25th, 2011 from 7-9 PM in a basketball game against the Arlington Elite.
#343 – Come to a Benefit Concert for OPEN International
OPEN International is a foundation started by Arlingtonian Khady Lusby to build a school in Nioro Senegal. The concert will be held at Arlington Traditional School Friday, March 18th, 2011 from 6:30-8:30 and will include performances from current and former ATS students. Donations will be accepted and will help continue the construction of the school, provide supplies and sponsor the Nioro students. For more information, click this link.
