It’s time for March Madness and there are plenty of opportunities to watch college basketball. But if that’s not enough, there is another opportunity to see basketball this month. The Harlem Wizards will be bringing their comedic routine of tricks, hoops and alley oops to Thomas Jefferson Community Center on Friday, March 25th, 2011 from 7-9 PM in a basketball game against the Arlington Elite.
#343 – Come to a Benefit Concert for OPEN International
OPEN International is a foundation started by Arlingtonian Khady Lusby to build a school in Nioro Senegal. The concert will be held at Arlington Traditional School Friday, March 18th, 2011 from 6:30-8:30 and will include performances from current and former ATS students. Donations will be accepted and will help continue the construction of the school, provide supplies and sponsor the Nioro students. For more information, click this link.
#342 – Go see the Daffodils at LBJ Memorial Grove and Lady Byrd Johnson Park
The daffodils are in bloom! It was a beautiful day today so I took a a drive past Lady Byrd Johnson Park today and a stroll to Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove, which I had never visited before. You can see the daffodils at Lady Byrd Johnson Park as you drive down the GW Parkway, but there is nowhere to park. But follow the signs to Lyndon Banes Johnson Memorial Grove and you can park your car and take a short walk across a bridge where you will find more daffodils and a flagstone walkway to a stone sculpture. Formerly known as Columbia Island, the park was renamed in honor of Lady Bird Johnson and her campaign to beautify Washington D.C. . From the grove there is a beautiful view of the river and the monuments in DC. This was apparently one of the Johnsons’ favorite spots to stop and admire the view.
#341 – Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at an Irish Pub
Arlington has a wealth of Irish pubs where you can celebrate St. Patrick’s day, listen to Irish music, down a pint of Guinness and eat corned beef and cabbage. Many are opening up early on St. Patrick’s Day and offering live music or other specials. Click on the links to see more details.

Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) will be offering Sober-Ride, free taxi rides (up to $15 fare) for a 12 hour period from the afternoon/early evening of March 17th to the early morning of March 18th. #340 – Come to the Green Living Expo
Arlington has been holding an annual Green Living Expo in March or April. The event is family friendly and free to the public. For 2014, the event will be held April 26th from 10-4 at Founders Hall at the George Mason Arlington campus.
