First Presbyterian Church is hosting a benefit concert for Haiti Sunday, January 9, 2011 at 7PM. A variety of professional area musicians will be performing, including a jazz trio, piano four hands, a dancer from Ballet Nova, members of the Navy Sea Chanters, the Army Chorus, and the Singing Sergeants, The Commonwealth Brass Quintet, The Arlington Children’s Chorus, National Cathedral Organist Scott Dettra, Concert Pianist David Kosutic, and Saxophonist Irvin Peterson. No tickets are required. All donations will go directly to DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS for their relief work in Haiti.

Are you a history buff? Arlington County Parks & Recreation is holding a tour of forts in South Arlington for ages 12 to adult on Saturday January 8, 2011. Visit the locations and remaining earthworks of Forts Scott and, and the reconstructed earthworks at Fort Ward in Alexandria. These forts were built by the Union Army to protect Washington and Alexandria. The van leaves from Lubber Run Rec Center at 9 am and returns at noon. Registration is required. $15.

Members of the Northern Virginia Bird Club hold informal walks through Arlington parks and other nearby areas in search of wintering birds. Bring binoculars and field guides. Lifetime Fitness Considered an athletic country club, Lifetime’s new facility in Clarendon includes a kids club, yoga and pilates studios, a cycle studio, cardio and weight training areas, a cafe, spa and women’s and men’s steam room, sauna, whilrpool and cold plunge bath.
One Life Fitness in Ballston Quarter offers group fitness classes, cardio and strength equipment, a mind/body studio, a cycle studio, a steamroom and sauna.
Gold’s Gym has four Arlington locations – Rosslyn, Clarendon, Ballston and Bailey’s Crossroads.
Orange Theory also has several locations in Arlington – Ballston, Clarendon and Rosslyn and offers a one-hour total body workout incorporating rowing, treadmills and weights.
Anytime Fitness in Rosslyn offers 24-hour access with cardio, strength and functional equipment.
Barry’s in Clarendon offers 50-minute classes in “The Red Room” that mix cardio and strength training.

Arlington County has fitness facilities at several community centers with 12-month adult memberships for $205*. Reduced fees are available for seniors, college students and teens.
