#246 – Shop For Toys
Looking for holiday gifts for the kids? Forget the big box stores and national chains. Arlington has some great old-fashioned toy stores with great service and selection. They include One Two Kangaroo, located in Shirlingotn at 4022 S. 28th street, Kinder Haus Toys which recently moved from Lee Heights to Clarendon (1220 N. Fillmore Street), and Child’s Play which took over the old Kinder Haus spot at Lee Heights (4510 Lee Highway).
#245 – Participate in Wreaths Across America
Saturday, December 11, 2010 will be the 19th consecutive year there will be approximately 20,000 wreaths placed at Arlington National Cemetery as part of the Wreaths Across America Program. Morrill Worcester, owner of Worcester Wreath Company, Harrington, Maine, is donating the Maine balsam fir holiday wreaths which will be placed in Sections 28, 38, 43 (in the older section of the Cemetery), and Section 60 where many of those lost in our current conflicts are buried. Volunteers are welcome to participate. There will be a short welcome and briefing of all volunteers at 8:30am at the intersection of Lincoln and Mitchell Drives within the Cemetery.
#244 – Come to the Winter Wonderland
Typically held the second Saturday in December, Clarendon Market Common hosts Winter Wonderland. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by fire truck and they’ll be staying for visits and free photos. All afternoon, attendees can enjoy free holiday activities and entertainment, including ice sculptures, strolling entertainment, “Jack Frost”, carolers, and more. #242 – Donate your Wheels to Africa
Wheels to Africa is an Arlington based non-profit organization which will be holding its 6th Annual Bike Collection from 10-3 on Saturday, December 11th, 2010. Donated bikes are sent to communities in Africa where they are used to provide basic transportation for people to reach school, food, water and medical care. In Arlington, there will be collection sites at Washington-Lee High School, Yorktown High School and Swanson Middle School.
