Located along the George Washington Parkway at Lady Byrd Johnson Park, this monument of waves and gulls is one of my favorite and you have an excellent view of Washington, DC from this site along the Potomac River.
#136 – Take the “Arlington History Ride”
The Arlington History Ride is a 28-mile self guided bike tour with 12 stops at some of Arlington’s historic landmarks. For most riders the tour will take at least four hours but it can be broken into two parts. The tour is best done on a weekend (for bikers or hikers) to include a visit to the Arlington Historical Museum, where it starts and ends. The museum is staffed by volunteer docents. #135 – Check out Fire Works Pizza
Fire Works Pizza on Clarendon Boulevard is located in the Courthouse Neighborhood of North Arlington. Serving pizzas from their five ton wood fired oven and with 33 beers on tap this restaurant from the owners of Tuscarora Mill in Leesburg is a welcome addition to the Courthouse area restaurant scene. They also have great outdoor seating in season.
#134 – Grab Coffee or a bite to eat at Northside Social
Northside Social is a coffee shop, wine bar and cafe located in Clarendon. They are part of the local restaurant group that owns Liberty Tavern and Lyon Hall.
#133 – Come to the Shirlington Summer Jazz Series
Stop by The Village at Shirlington Thursdays in July and August from 6:30 to 8:30 for live music and wine tastings in the summer Jazz Series. The performances are held in the plaza in front of the Shirlington Library. Check their website for 2011 dates.
#132 – Come to the Arlington County Fair
Held at Thomas Jefferson Community Center every August, the Arlington County Fair is one of the largest free events on the East Coast. The fair has carnival rides, entertainment, food vendors, piglet races, competitive events and outdoor movie nights. It typically begins with outdoor activities on the first Wednesday and Thursday evening in August and continues with indoor and outdoor events Friday through Sunday.
