Every weekend, the Dance Factory on N. Monroe Street in Arlington hosts both a “Friday Night Open” and a “Strictly Beginners Dance” on Friday as well as themed dances on Saturday nights. They offer both private and group lessons and a wedding survival package to learn to dance for the big day.
#28 – Go see a high school musical
Not the movie – the real thing. Check individual school websites for performance schedules. Last year there was a unique opportunity to see two schools performing the same musical the same weekend when both Washington-Lee and Wakefield had productions of Godspell.
In 2010, Washington-Liberty High School will be performing Grease on November 18th-20th, HB Woodlawn will be presenting its next musical in January, and Wakefield plans a Spring musical the first two weekends in May. Bishop O’Connell will be holding a winter musical, The Lamplighter – a musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol, December 9-12th as well as a Spring performance of “Into the Woods” March 26th-28th. Yorktown‘s schedule for the 2010-2011 school year is not yet on their site.
#27 – Celebrate Cinco de Mayo
On Cinco de Mayo or any time you want Mexican food, try our local favorite, Taqueria El Pablano, the family owned and operated Guajillo in the Courthouse neighborhood for authentic Mexican cuisine, or Mexicali Blues in Clarendon for its vibrant atmosphere. Last year we got takeout from El Paso on Pershing Drive.
#26 Experience The View of DC
The View of DC presents a sweeping panorama of the D.C. area’s magnificent monuments and renowned landmarks. Located in Arlington’s Rosslyn neighborhood, this concourse offers visitors picturesque views through floor-to-ceiling windows and open-air views from its outside terrace. Entrance is free with a valid photo ID.
2010 Clarendon Day is Saturday 9/25
This year’s Clarendon Day will be combined with Virginia Hospital Center’s Family Fun Day for even more fun! Starting at 8:20 AM with a 5K run, a 10K at 9:00 AM, and a kids’ dash at 10:30 AM, and followed by music on two stages, over 50 vendors, and food from local restaurants, face painting, games, fitness classes, dancing and health screenings from 11-5. All events will take place around the Clarendon Metro Station.
