Help Your Neighbors Age in Place

Arlington Neighborhood Village operates on a simple and powerful premise: that older adults deserve to age in their own homes, in their own community, with dignity and support — and that neighbors are the best ones to provide it. ANV helps older adults age in place safely by providing access to volunteer support and social connection, with over 300 trained and vetted volunteers providing practical help and social support including rides to medical appointments and the grocery store, friendly visits, household assistance, technology help, and daily check-in calls. In 2024, ANV fulfilled 96% of member requests — a total of 4,400 volunteer services — with transportation being the most requested service at over 2,100 rides.

Volunteers can choose their own schedule by selecting from a daily email of open requests that match their preferred services — whether driving, running errands, providing tech support, or visiting with members who rarely get out. There’s no minimum commitment required, and the organization provides thorough training and a background check before you begin. If behind-the-scenes work is more your style, ANV also needs help with finance, communications, fundraising, and event planning. The impact is immediate and deeply personal — many volunteers describe their relationships with members as among the most meaningful of their lives. Learn more and apply at anvarlington.org.
