#152 – Check out A Modo Mio

A Modo Mio — Italian for “My Way” — is the reinvention of a beloved Arlington institution with deep roots in the neighborhood. In 1970, the Farruggio family left their Sicilian hometown of Agrigento, Italy and settled in New York, where they learned the craft of pizza-making before moving to Virginia and opening their first Joe’s Place in Bailey’s Crossroads in 1978. Decades later, the family relaunched under the A Modo Mio name, revamping the restaurant’s interior and exterior and shifting focus to authentic Neapolitan pizza alongside a fresh new menu — while keeping the warmth and community spirit that made Joe’s Pizza and Pasta that used to be in this space a neighborhood fixture for so long. The restaurant is located at 5555 Langston Blvd (also listed as Lee Highway) in North Arlington.
The results have been nationally recognized: A Modo Mio was ranked No. 32 on Top 50 Pizza’s 2025 annual list, making it the only Virginia and DMV restaurant to appear, and was also named one of the 18 Best Pizzerias in Northern Virginia. The award-winning pizzas are baked in a custom-made, hand-built brick oven imported from Italy, using classic Neapolitan methods and double-zero flour for a light, airy crust. Beyond pizza, the menu spans house-made pastas, antipasti, seafood, and a carefully curated wine list. Monday nights bring half-price bottles of wine; another evening features half-price pizza — both perennially packed. Hours are Monday–Thursday 11 a.m.–9 p.m., Friday–Saturday 11 a.m.–10 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Visit amodomiopizza.com or call (703) 532-0990.
