Westover Highlights
The Westover neighborhood, centered around Washington Boulevard between N. Longfellow Street and McKinley Road is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a pedestrian friendly neighborhood where residents can walk to shops, schools, work, and public transportation. The shopping center on both sides of Washington Boulevard provides a mix of shops, restaurants and services including the library and post office, Ayer’s Variety and Hardware which has served the community since 1947, Westover Market which now has a popular outdoor beer garden, Lost Dog Cafe/Gourmet Pizza Deli and its sister restaurant, The Stray Cat, the original Lebanese Taverna and a second location for The Italian Store. Residences in the neighborhood are still mostly pre-World War II single family homes although many have had interior updates and additions, and garden style apartments including Westover Apartments. Residents are served by Cardinal Elementary, nearby Swanson Middle School and Yorktown High School.
Adjacent neighborhoods which are also served by Westover Village include Overlee Knolls, Leeway Heights and Tara (see their civic association links below), Bluemont, Dominion Hills and Madison Manor.
