Arlington artist Sandi Parker will be having a solo show at Westover Library June 8 – July 26, 2012 called “Spring Into Summer”. The paintings will include scenes of cherry blossoms, France, seascapes and florals. The show will then move to Cosi at Courthouse from August 1-31st.

2012 Air Force Cycling Classic June 9th and 10th
The Air Force Cycling Classic Presents Outstanding Opportunity to Watch World-Class Cycling In the DC Area
Join thousands of spectators as cyclists soar through thrilling courses as The Air Force Cycling Classic returns to Arlington from June 9 – 10, 2012. Cheer from the sidelines as some of the world’s best cyclists speed past familiar landmarks, such as the Pentagon and Air Force Memorial, while they make their way from Clarendon to Crystal City during this cycling spectacular.
The two-day event features world-class professional races, amateur cycling, and special courses for kids – all here in the DC area. Presented by The Boeing Company, the cycling extravaganza kicks off in Clarendon on Saturday, June 9, 2012, and then moves to Crystal City on Sunday for a second day of riding and reveling.

The weekend’s races begin in Clarendon on Saturday, June 9, with the Air Force Cycling Classic’s Clarendon Cup, an event that consists of various races throughout the day:
8:00 a.m.
Men’s Masters Amateur Race: For racers over 40. Cyclists must have a valid USA Cycling Category 1 – 4 racing license to participate.
8:55 a.m.
Men’s Elite Amateur Race: For elite amateurs holding a valid USA Cycling Category 1 – 3 racing license.
9:55 a.m.
Women’s Elite Race: For professional cyclists holding a valid USA Cycling Category 1 – 2 racing license.
11:35 a.m.
Kids’ Race: Free and open to all children, ages nine and under.
12:00 p.m.
Men’s Pro Race: This prestigious race, now in its 15th year, highlights some of the world’s top cycling professionals who will battle to complete 100 laps on a short, exciting course.

Sunday events move from Clarendon to Crystal City, showcasing the vibrant shops and restaurants of the area with the non-competitive Crystal Ride, as well as a series of races that make up the Crystal Cup. The events of the day include:
7:30 a.m.
Crystal Ride: This amateur, non-competitive ride, sponsored in part by the Crystal City Business Improvement District, takes cyclists through a closed, 15km circuit in and around the Pentagon, Crystal City and the Air Force Memorial. Riders have the option to simply participate or use the ride to raise money for the Air Force Association’s Wounded Airman Initiative.
11:15 a.m.
Kids’ Race: Free and open to all children, ages nine and under.
11:30 a.m.
Men’s Pro Race: This race, including some of the top pros in the world, begins with a ceremonial start at the Air Force Memorial, immediately following an Air Force Flyover, though the official start takes place in Crystal City.
1:25 p.m.
Women’s Elite Race: For professional cyclists holding a valid USA Cycling Category 1 – 2 racing license.
2:30 p.m.
Men’s Elite Amateur Race: For elite amateurs holding a valid USA Cycling Category 3 racing license.
3:25 p.m.
Men’s Elite Amateur Race: For elite amateurs holding a valid USA Cycling Category 4 racing license.
*The Men’s Pro/1 and Women’s races are once again part of the USA Cycling’s National Criterium Calendar.

Bike DC 2012
Bike DC, the annual Washington and Arlington Community Bike Ride, is being held Sunday, May 13th, 2012. From the Capitol and White House to Arlington Cemetery and the Air Force Memorial, from Pennsylvania Avenue to the George Washington Parkway, Bike DC is a non-competitive bike ride through the heart of our community and the heart of the nation. The entire route will be car-free, and this year includes a section of Rock Creek Parkway first time. The Full Ride is 24-miles long and begins at 7 am with a shorter 11-mile long Family Ride suitable for novice cyclists beginning at 7:15 am.
Registration is available online until 11:59PM Saturday, May12th and in person on the morning of the event near the ride start line at NW 3rd Street and Madison, on the Mall side of the U. S. Capitol, beginning at 6 a.m. Advance registration fees are $40 for adults on the full ride, $30 on the family ride, youths ages 13-19 $25 for the full ride, $15 for the family ride. In person registration is $10 additional. Children 12 and under may register for the family ride for free.

Arlington Neighborhood Day 2012
Saturday, May 12th, 2012 will mark the 12th annual Neighborhood Day designed to help make Arlingtonians connect with their neighbors. Among the many events scheduled are a BBQ for the Bluemont Civic neighborhood from 11:30-1:30 at Firehouse #2 on Wilson Blvd., a cookout in the Claremont Neighborhood at Claremont Mini Park from 11-2, a community yard sale and other family activities in the Nauck Neighborhood, a softball game between the Arlington Heights Fightin-Pineapples and Penrose Tracks,a Highland Park-Overlee Knolls Family Fun Day at Westover Library, a Family Fun Night at TJ Community Center, Fairlington Day at the Fairlington Community Center, a yard sale in Ashton Heights, and a Neighborhood Day Festival and potluck supper at Dominion Hills Park from 4-7.
