Arlington County has announced that Fire Dept. No. 3 in Cherrydale opened today, July 26th, 2011. The public is invited to a dedication ceremony on Friday July 29th at 2PM where they will have a ceremonial uncoupling of a fire house (serving as a “ribbon-cutting”) and a community open house on Saturday, July 30th from 10-2. when visitors can tour the state-of-the-art facility, meet the firefighters and check out the equipment.
2011’s Summer Development Camp for Washington Capitals Prospects will be held July 11th-16th at the Kettler Iceplex at Ballston. All on-ice sessions, including the three intrasquad games, are free and open to the public. Capitals prospects who are under contract as well as recent Capitals draft picks who have not been signed yet will be in attendance. The camp will wrap up with a Fan Fest on Saturday, July 16, beginning at 10 AM. The Fan Fest will feature an intrasquad scrimmage as well as the team’ annual equipment sale, interactive games, autographs and public skating.
 Arlington Pediatric Center will be holding a Bollywood themed benefit on Friday July 15th, 2011 from 7-11 pm at Washington Golf and Country Club. The event will include a Bollywood Bar & Cocktail Buffet, music and dancing with DJ Lucky, a henna artist, and silent and live auction items. Tickets for the event are $125 per person.

Shirlington Branch Library will be showing free family friendly movies every Friday through the end of August at 2:00 PM and Westover Branch Library will be showing movies on select Wednesdays at 4:00 PM. Movies include recent favorites Shrek Forever After, Tangled, How to Train Your Dragon and classics like Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and Alice in Wonderland. Register to ride or come on out to cheer the riders on. This year’s Air Force Cycling Classic will be Saturday June 11th in Clarendon and Sunday June 12th in Crystal City. Fourteen of the top professional and amateur cycling teams from around the world will be competing in what is considered one of the nation’s premier cycling events. Kids rides will be held both days for children 9 and under and are free. The non-competitive Air Force Challenge Crystal Ride will be held Sunday at 7:30 am and registration is open to riders of all abilities.
