Bike DC, a 20 mile bike ride through Washington and Arlington on car-free streets, highways and parkways will be held Sunday, May 22nd 2011. The ride begins on the National Mall in front of the U. S. Capitol and continues up Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House and across the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge/I-66 into Virginia. The route then goes along the George Washington Memorial Parkway and past the Marine Corps Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, the Pentagon and the Air Force Memorial before heading back into DC. The entire ride is on streets closed to motorized traffic.
Lyon Park will hold its Spring Fair and Big Wheel Derby on 5/21/11
Lyon Park is having a Spring Fair 5/21/11 from 11-3 to help raise funds for a new community center. The Fair will include a plant sale, bake sale, moon bounce, pony rides, games, food and drinks and will be followed by a Big Wheels Derby.
Tuckahoe’s 11th Annual House & Garden Tour will be held 5/21
Every May the Tuckahoe Elementary School PTA will hosts its Annual Home & Garden Tour. This annual event supports Tuckahoe’s award-winning Discovery Schoolyard.

The Children’s School’s Annual Spring Fling is 5/14
The Children’s School at Reed School, 1644 N. McKinley Road, across the street from the Westover Shopping Center is holding its Annual Spring Fling this Saturday, May 14th, 2011 from 9am-1pm. Come for food and fun, Moon-bounce, carnival games, Silent auction. Rain or Shine. This is a great event for children of all ages.
Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival Begins April 29th
This year’s theme for the Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival will be “SNL in the Movies” and will feature actors from Saturday Night Live. Movies will be shown every Friday night at dusk beginning April 29, 2011 and ending August 26. Bring your blankets and low chairs and picnic in the park before the show. There will be pre-show games and prizes. The event is free and open to the public. The screening is just two blocks from the Rosslyn Metro and parking is available across the street from Gateway Park at the Atlantic Parking Garage for $3 at 1901 and 1911 N. Ft. Myer Drive after 6 pm. Enter the garage on N. Moore Street.

Historic Garden Week Tour Scheduled for April 19th
The Garden Club of Virginia and The Garden Club of Fairfax are presenting the 78th Annual House and Garden Tour in Arlington & McLean, Virginia for Historic Garden Week on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 10-4. Tours benefit the restorations of historic gardens and landmarks in Virginia. According to the Historic Garden Week website, this year’s tour “will open a fascinating variety of homes and gardens. . . Architectural styles include Tudor Revival, modified Craftsman, cottage-rambler, Arts and Crafts, French Country, and one described by its owners as a “cross between a ranch and a Cape Cod on steroids.” Some are creatively renovated houses from the mid-20th century, while others were only recently constructed. Interior and garden designs are as eclectic as the exteriors, offering visitors a thoroughly enjoyable day of touring.”
The tour includes the following homes, all of which are open for the first time during Historic Garden Week:

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the tour. Advance tickets can be purchased at Calico Corners, Company Flowers Express Jewelers in Ballston Mall, Lemon Twist and Millie’s Dry Cleaning in Arlington. Tickets can be purchase don the day of the tour at Memorial Baptist Church, 3455 N. Glebe Road, Arlington or any of the properties open for the tour.
