Wheels to Africa is an Arlington based non-profit organization which will be holding its 6th Annual Bike Collection from 10-3 on Saturday, December 11th, 2010. Donated bikes are sent to communities in Africa where they are used to provide basic transportation for people to reach school, food, water and medical care. In Arlington, there will be collection sites at Washington-Lee High School, Yorktown High School and Swanson Middle School.
#241 – Check out Arlington Rooftop Bar & Grill
Arlington Rooftop Bar & Grill, the anxiously awaited new restaurant located at 2424 Wilson Blvd. in the Clarendon/Courthouse opened in 2010 with the large rooftop patio opening the following year. The restaurant is open Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 11 pm. They are serving lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.
#240 – Attend a Nutcracker tea
Ballet Nova’s performances of The Nutcracker are already sold out (some tickets may be available at the door on the day of the performance), but you can still buy tickets to a Nutcracker Tea at the Westin Gateway in Arlington on December 19th which will be followed by a mini-performance of the Nutcracker.
#239 – Celebrate the Miracle on 23rd Street
Linden Resources, a non-profit organization created to provide vocational services for more than 250 people with disabilities, hosts an annual Tree Lighting Celebration called “Miracle on 23rd Street” because it is held in Arlington’s Crystal City neighborhood. Generally the first Friday in December, you can bring the whole family to enjoy an evening of holiday festivities and a visit from Santa! Please be sure to bring a food item for their Holiday Food Drive to benefit the Arlington Food Assistance Center.
#238 – Light Up Rosslyn
Come to the Jumbotron at 1100 Wilson Boulevard on Thursday, December 2nd to see TBD-TV Anchor Morris Jones and local officials as they flip a giant light switch at exactly 6:31 p.m. turning on holiday lights along the rooftops of Rosslyn buildings for the 17th annual Light Up Rosslyn ceremony. Complimentary refreshments will be provided and the Potomac Harmony Chorus and Beltway Brass will perform during the ceremony. Activities begin at 5:00 PM.
#237 – Pay it Forward
David Del Mundo has declared December 1st, 2010 Pay it Forward Day. ‘Tis the season to share a random act of kindness to someone today. Buy coffee for the person behind you in line, donate something, help someone out, buy someone some groceries, be creative. Share some kindness and spread some joy! And spread the word.
