Jay’s Saloon, nominated for an ABBIE award for “Best Neighborhood Bar” is one of Arlington’s last true dive bars. Every Friday night from 9-12 Pee Wee features classic rock hits from the 1960’s through the 1980’s. If you answer a random trivia question you might get draft beer for a quarter. Every other Saturday night, they have live music from classic rock bands. In addition, they offer half price burgers on Tuesday nights and Happy Hour prices from 4-7 Monday through Friday and during NFL football games. Jay’s is located a few blocks from the Clarendon Metro at 3114 N. 10th Street.
Saffron Dance, nominated for an ABBIE award for “Best Place to Learn Something New” has an 8 week Crash Course Intro in Belly Dancing as well as Bely Fit and several other dance technique classes starting this week. The studio is located one block from the Clarendon Metro at 3260 Wilson Boulevard in Arlington.
Covet is a new art, jewelry and home decor gallery near Ballston. The shop, which just opened in May, has already been nominated for Best Boutique and Best New Business in the ABBIE Awards. Hours are Wed-Saturday from 10-5 and Sunday from 12-5. Thursday, October 21st they will be holding a Mad Men Cocktail Party from 7-10:30.
Wakefield, Washington-Liberty and Yorktown High School Marching Bands play at Friday night football games as well as at various competitions through the year, including an APS Marching Band Showcase which will have all three of them performing. This is typically held in October. Check the schools’ websites for specific dates and locations and come out to cheer them on.
