On Saturday, August 1 the Rosslyn BID will hold the Dark Star Park Festival in Rosslyn from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm.
The event celebrates the 25th anniversary of Public Art in Arlington by celebrating the anniversary of Arlington’s first public art piece, Dark Star Park.
The event kicks off with a program at 8:30 am at Dark Star Park at 1655 N. Fort Myer Drive. The ceremony leads up to a once-a-year shadow alignment. At 9:32 am on August 1, the art piece interacts with the sun and the spheres and poles of Dark Star Park cast shadows that line up with shadow images on the ground.
Many APS students are helping to celebrate this event with a 400 piece art show. Students from ATS, Barrett, Claremont, Drew, Glebe, Henry, and McKinley produced circular works of art in honor of the large public art piece in Arlington. Their work will be shown in what is now known as Arlington’s future Cultural Center.
In addition to that, families can enjoy many free science and art related events Saturday in Rosslyn.

Star Talks by APS Planetarium Director Jonathan Harmon
NASA Movies including Cosmic Collisions and 3D Sun (complete with 3-D glasses)

Face Painting and Balloon Animals
Public Art and Historic Tours
Live Music by Rocknoceros and The Grandsons
Synetic Theater (Classika Theater) Educational Performance
The event is just three blocks from the Rosslyn Metro and free parking is available at 1101 Wilson Blvd.
