The annual Marine Corps Marathon is typically held the last Sunday in October. Come out and cheer them on as they run through Arlington and Washington, DC. There are five locations recommended for spectators.

Opening ceremonies will be held at the MCM Start Line on Route 110 in Arlington accessible on Metro’s blue/orange line at the Rosslyn or Pentagon Station. Metro will open at 5 AM and the race begins at 7:55 AM. After the start you can cross the Arlington Memorial Bridge to the Lincoln Memorial in DC where you’ll be able to see runners at mile 11 and mile 16. If you head east on Constitution Avenue, past the Washington Monument to the National Mall you will be in a good position to see the runners at miles 18 and 19. From there take the Metro via the Smithsonian station and head back into Virginia on the Blue or Yellow line to Crystal City where you can see the runners at miles 22 and 23. There will also be live music and family activities. At the finish line near the Marine Corps War Memorial there will be bleacher seating. Take Metro’s blue line to Rosslyn or the MCM shuttle from 23rd Street in Crystal City.
The Marine Corps Marathon Finish Festival is usually held in Rosslyn with a family link up area, music, food samplings and a beer garden.
Yorktown High School Open House
The Arlington community is invited to attend an open house at Yorktown High School on Saturday, October 30th, 2010 from 1-3 p.m. The open house is a celebration of the completion of Phase I of the capital improvement project. There will be performances by the Yorktown dance team, cheerleaders and musicians on the school’s front plaza. Visitors will be able to tour the new technology-enhanced classrooms, art studios, laboratories, cafeteria, family and consumer science lab, TV studio and performing arts spaces.
Alumni of the school are also encouraged to attend and should stop by Room 222 for alumni activities.

AAH is holding a San Gala
Arlington Academy of Hope is holding their annual gala and silent auction to provide hope for Ugandan children. The event will raise funds to support the AAH model primary school, secondary scholarship program, outreach to village schools and two medical clinics. The SanGala will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 PM on October 29th, 2010 at the Capital View Ballroom at the Key Bridge Marriott.

Come to the Dominion Guild Open House
This year’s annual fundraiser, an Open House Boutiques and Coffee will be held Wednesday, October 27th, 2010 from 10am-4pm at the brand new Cathedral View townhomes at 2723 N. Glebe Road. Do your holiday shopping and help out a good cause. The Dominion Guild has been raising funds for over 20 years for distribution to qualifying projects and entities serving the Northern Virginia community. 2010 College Night will be held at Ballston Mall Wednesday October 13th
High school students and parents are invited to attend “College Night” on October 13th, 2010 from 7-9 p.m. on the second and third levels of Ballston Common Mall. More than 150 colleges, universities and trade schools will have representatives on hand to answer questions about the admissions process, academics and campus life. In addition, a workshop on college admissions processes will be held at the event.
