The weather is improving. Why not get out for a run/jog/walk? Check out this website for some great running routes in Arlington. Or hit the tracks at Washington-Liberty High School, Wakefield, Yorktown and Thomas Jefferson Middle School. Here is the County information on their outdoor tracks. There are also indoor tracks at Thomas Jefferson Community Center and Lubber Run Community Center.
This event is typically held the last Saturday in August. The free activities included live music, children’s entertainment, exhibitors, pet portrait sessions, demonstrations and prizes. Check the Village at Shirlington website for details about this year’s event.
The Arlington History Ride is a 28-mile self guided bike tour with 12 stops at some of Arlington’s historic landmarks. For most riders the tour will take at least four hours but it can be broken into two parts. The tour is best done on a weekend (for bikers or hikers) to include a visit to the Arlington Historical Museum, where it starts and ends. The museum is staffed by volunteer docents. Stop by The Village at Shirlington Thursdays in July and August from 6:30 to 8:30 for live music and wine tastings in the summer Jazz Series. The performances are held in the plaza in front of the Shirlington Library. Check their website for 2011 dates.
Held at Thomas Jefferson Community Center every August, the Arlington County Fair is one of the largest free events on the East Coast. The fair has carnival rides, entertainment, food vendors, piglet races, competitive events and outdoor movie nights. It typically begins with outdoor activities on the first Wednesday and Thursday evening in August and continues with indoor and outdoor events Friday through Sunday.
