Come to Thomas Jefferson Middle School at 125 S. Old Glebe Road on Saturday, October 12, 2013 between 830 AM and 3 PM for Arlington’s E-Care biannual event to safely dispose of household hazardous materials, and recycle many items including eyeglasses, small metal items, shoes, clothing, bed frames, durable medical equipment and bicycles.
EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES
With Earth Day coming up Monday, April 22nd, 2013, there are several related activities going on in Arlington. There is an E-Care Recycling Event at Thomas Jefferson Community Center on Saturday, April 20th from 8:30-3. On Sunday, April 21st, Arlington’s Green Living Expo will be partnered with George Mason University’s Earth Week Community Fair to be held at GMU’s Arlington campus from noon-4:30. Mason’s Office of Sustainability is also hosting speakers, workshops, volunteer opportunities and other activities throughout the month of April. For a list of events, click the Office of Sustainability’s link here. And on Monday, April 22nd, the Nauck Community Services Center will be holding a recycling fundraising event from 10-4.
The 2012 Arlington County Fair Runs From 8/8 – 8/12
The 2012 Arlington County Fair begins Wednesday August 8th and will run through Sunday, August 12th at Thomas Jefferson Community Center. The theme for the 2012 fair is “Live Green, Learn Green” and is directly tied to Arlington County’s initiative to make our community a sustainable place to live, work, and play. The fair will feature competitive exhibits, carnival rides, food vendors, piglet races, pony rides, a kids court with face painting, inflatables, and other games and activities, entertainment including appearances by the Harlem Wizards, musical groups and outdoor movies.
Opening ceremonies will begin with entertainment from the US Army Brass Quintet at 6:00 Thursday, August 9th. For hours, schedule of performances and more information, visit the Arlington County Fair website.
Parking at the fairgrounds is prohibited but shuttles will run every 30 minutes each day during the Fair’s operating hours from the Ballston Metro, the Arlington Career Center, and the I-66 parking garage. Parking is complimentary at shuttle locations. A $2 round-trip fee is charged for shuttle services and will be collected upon arrival at the Fair grounds. Children 12 and under and seniors 65 and over ride for free. Onside ADA parking is available at the Fair site in the parking lot located directly in front of the Thomas Jefferson Community Center.

Join Arlington’s Children & Nature Network for a Winter Nature Celebration
Chick-fil-A at the Ballston Common Food Court and the Arlington Children and Nature Network are holding a Winter Nature Celebration on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 10am to 2pm. Come to the lower level of the mall near Chick-fil-A. (If Arlington Public Schools announces activities are closed that day due to inclement weather then it will be moved to February 18th. This free event will include activities to learn about nature and how to enjoy our urban environment, even in winter, including crafts, exhibits, a kid-friendly walk of the Ballston neighborhood led by WalkArlington, and refreshments including hot beverages courtesy of Chick-fil-A. The Arlington Environmental Collection and Recycling (E-CARE) is an event where Arlington residents can safely dispose of household hazardous materials, recycle bikes, small metal items, shoes, eyeglasses, and durable medical equipment. Team up with your neighbors to bring everything in one car. Business or Commercial wastes will not be accepted. This event is typically held in the Spring and the Fall.
