Arlington Food Assistance Center holds an annual event “Shine a Light on Hunger” to honor the many individuals, families, corporations and community partners who contribute to AFAC’s success. For 2024, this event will be held on April 18th at Army Navy Country Club. AFAC is celebrating 35 years fulfilling their mission and feeding neighbors in need.
#341 – Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at an Irish Pub
Arlington has a wealth of Irish pubs where you can celebrate St. Patrick’s day, listen to Irish music, down a pint of Guinness and eat corned beef and cabbage. Many are opening up early on St. Patrick’s Day and offering live music or other specials. Click on the links to see more details.

Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) will be offering Sober-Ride, free taxi rides (up to $15 fare) for a 12 hour period from the afternoon/early evening of March 17th to the early morning of March 18th. The Front Page Restaurant and Bar in Ballston has “Thirsty Thursday Taco Toss” with 2 tacos for $1 from 5-8 pm and a DJ Dance Party. During away Caps games you can come “Rock the Red” with a viewing party. They have a “Build Your Own Pasta Bar” on Mondays, Trivia Night on Tuesdays and Half Price Burgers on Wednesdays. Weekend specials change throughout the year but right now they are having “Dewey Beach Weekend Parties” with music.

#328 – Check out Live Music at Zen Bistro and Wine Bar
Zen Bistro and Wine Bar is located in the central plaza at The Shops at Pentagon Row. Enjoy listening to live performers of jazz and blues Wednesday and Thursday evenings starting at 7:30. They serve Asian tapas, noodles, sweets and a fine selection of wines from all over the world.
#320- Have a Sensual Salsa Tuesday
Summers Restaurant in Arlington is now the spot of “Sensual Salsa Tuesdays” from The Elite Rumbero. Grand Opening Night is Tuesday, February 22, 2011 beginning at 7:30. The evening will include salsa classes and salsa dancing with music from DJ The Elite Rumbero and DJ Karz. There will be three sets of classes, Beginner Salsa from 7:30-8:30, Intermediate Salsa from 8:40-9:10 and Intermediate Bachata from 9:10-9:40.class. These three classes will last until to the end of the month of March. Entrance fee is $7 for those over 21 and $10 for those under 21. Dance classes are free. There will be special drink prices, and the Salsa Party from 9:40 to 1:00 am with a dance contest. First prize gets a $40 gift card from Summers.
#314 – Check out Mad Rose Tavern
This restaurant, bar & lounge at 3100 Clarendon Blvd. is opening February 16th, 2011, serving more than 20 beers on tap, 40 scotches and over 100 different types of wine. Food items include New Zealand lamb, Italian pork sausage and blackened redfish. This week they will be open for dinner only. Expect big crowds. Visit their Facebook page here for more information.
