The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox. Most times of the year the moon rises about 50 minutes later each day, but the Harvest Moon rises approximately 30 minutes later, from one night to the next. For 2021, the Harvest Moon will be on September 20th.
#164 – Head to Crystal City for Vintage Crystal
“Vintage Crystal”, is an annual event typically held the third weekend in September and offering wine, food, music and dance lessons with a Latin twist. Check the Crystal City BID for more information on this year’s event.
#163 – Participate in the Senior Olympics
The Northern Virginia Senior Olympic Program is held each Fall in Northern Virginia and is open to all senior residents ages 50 years and older. The program is ponsored by the Northern Virginia Senior Olympic Committee and co-sponsored by Northern Virginia Recreation and Parks Departments. Senior adults can participate in more than 25 events including pickleball, tennis, diving, track, team line dancing, bunco, racquetball, miniature golf, Wii bowling, chess, swimming, pool, cribbage and bocce.
For 2021, events will run throughout the area from September 18th through the 30th. The opening ceremony will be at Thomas Jefferson Community Center at 9:30 a.m. 9/18. Arlington events are being held at Thomas Jefferson Community Center, Arlington Mill Community Center, and Lubber Run Community Center.

#156 – Attend the Rosslyn Jazz Festival
The Rosslyn Jazz Festival is an annual event typically held the second Saturday in September at Gateway Park and features several local and national artists as well as a street fair along Lee Highway with food and artisan vendors.
For 2021, there will be some pop up events on September 8th, a jazz supper club on September 9th at Amuse, and the event at Gateway Park on September 18th. Check the Rosslyn BID site for this year’s schedule.

#151 – Visit the Netherlands Carillon
A gift from the Dutch people after American aid during and after World War II, the Netherlands Carillon has chimes that play daily on the hour between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m with automated concerts at noon and 6. Other patriotic tunes are played at special times through the year and summer concerts are presented most Saturdays and national holidays from May through September. The site offers a panoramic view of Washington, DC and is a popular picnic spot.

#147 – Enjoy The Loop at The Crossing Clarendon
Recently renamed (from Market Common Clarendon), The Crossing Clarendon includes Barnes & Noble, the Apple Store, Loft, Pottery Barn, Soul Cycle, Crate & Barrell, Williams Sonoma and other favorite stores around “The Loop.” It also includes nearby stores and restaurants like Cheesecake Factory, Whole Foods, Orvis, Seamore’s, TTT and Lululemon. The loop is being redeveloped to include more trees, more seating areas and be more pedestrian friendly. It includes a gazebo, a playground and a water feature.
