July 31st, 2010 was Family Fun Day at Bluemont Park from 10-2 with inflatables, sports challenges, games, bike rides and more. Grills were available or you could pack a picnic. Check the Arlington website and search for Bluemont Park once Summer is here to see if a 2011 date has been set.
#114 – View the Monuments at Night
Revolution Cycles and the Crystal City BID held a “Monuments at Night” HUB Spin Saturday July 31st, 2010 when this was posted on Facebook. You could rent a bike from the Crystal City cycle shop and head across the river as a group to view the monuments at night by bike. Since it started in Arlington, I included it on this site.

#97 – Go For a Walk
Arlington has been named one of the most walkable cities in the Country. WALKArlington Walkabouts are a series of self-guided walking tours of eighteen Arlington neighborhoods including Rosslyn, Fairlington, Arlington Forest, Ashton Heights, Clarendon-Courthouse, & Ballston-Virginia Square.
#94 – Come to the Annual Firefly Festival
The Annual Firefly Festival is held in June or July at Fort C.F. Smith. Bring a picnic and wait for the sun to go down and the fireflies to come out. Check the County’s Parks and Recreation site for this year’s date.
#93 – Visit the Ballston Arts & Crafts Market
The Ballston Arts & Crafts Market is held every Second Saturday from May-October from 10am-4pm in Welburn Square (The Ballston Circle) at Ballston Metro between N. Stuart and N. 9th Streets. They are a juried outdoor market for the exhibition and sale of original handmade art-and-craft items.
NOTE: The Ballston Arts & Crafts Market is no longer being held.
#89 – Come to the Sunset Parade
A Sunset Parade is held at the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima) most Tuesdays in the summer. The free one hour performance includes music from “The Commandant’s Own”, the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps and precision drill by the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon.
7:00 p.m. –0 p.m.
**The Sunset Parades on August 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd will begin 30 minutes earlier.** The start times are as follows:
6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
***SPECIAL NOTE: There will not be a Sunset Parade on Tuesday, 5 July 2011.***
