This year’s Clarendon Day will be combined with Virginia Hospital Center’s Family Fun Day for even more fun! Starting at 8:20 AM with a 5K run, a 10K at 9:00 AM, and a kids’ dash at 10:30 AM, and followed by music on two stages, over 50 vendors, and food from local restaurants, face painting, games, fitness classes, dancing and health screenings from 11-5. All events will take place around the Clarendon Metro Station.
#24 – Dine at Carlyle in Shirlington
Part of the Great American Restaurants group, Carlyle is listed in Northern Virginia magazine’s 50 Best Restaurants, and finished in the top 3 in Washingtonian’s Readers Choice awards for Best Desserts, Best Weekend Brunch and Best Service. The outdoor patio is a great spot for people watching.
#22 – Enjoy the rooftop pavillion at Clarendon Ballroom
UPDATE: Clarendon Ballroom is no longer open.
#19 – Enjoy Oysters at The Salt Line
Located in Ballston, this tasty seafood spot features weekend brunch service, an outdoor bar, local oysters and weekday happy hour pricing. See The Salt Line’s website.
#16 – Eat at Lebanese Taverna
One of my favorite things to do in the Spring and Summer here is dine al fresco at one of the many restaurants in Clarendon, Pentagon Row or just in my own backyard. New to the outdoor dining scene this year is Lebanese Taverna in Westover Village which was one of our family’s favorites even without outdoor dining. Their Pentagon Row location also offers outdoor dining. You can choose from a variety of hot and cold mezzas or entrees.
Celebrate Arlington’s Farm to Table Month
Arlington is celebrating Farm to Table Month from September 15th-October 15th with their 2010 Local Foods, Local Chefs program. You can support sustainable urban agriculture by dining at one of the participating restaurants, attending a workshop or visiting a farmer’s market. The restaurants have agreed to offer at least one complete meal made entirely of local ingredients grown within 120 miles of Arlington. The restaurants include American Flatbread, Eventide, Kora, The Liberty Tavern, Lyon Hall, Restaurant 3, Santa Fe Cafe, Twisted Vines and Willow.
There will also be farmer’s market tours held throughout the month and workshops and lectures on topics such as planning edible gardens and preserving the harvest. For future events, visit DC’s Field to Fork Network here.
