This annual event will be held February 7th to February 11th, 2012 from 6-10 PM at 1750 Crystal Drive in Arlington. Crystal Couture is a fashion show and high-end bargain and trunk sale bringing over 40 of the area’s most stylish boutiques and designers all under one roof. Shoppers will also be treated to free make-up and hair makeovers, have a chance to talk with fashion consultants, and enjoy music from DJ Neekola. This year’s event includes America’s Next Top Model contestant Bianca Charde.

2011 Air Force Cycling Classic is June 11th and 12th
Register to ride or come on out to cheer the riders on. This year’s Air Force Cycling Classic will be Saturday June 11th in Clarendon and Sunday June 12th in Crystal City. Fourteen of the top professional and amateur cycling teams from around the world will be competing in what is considered one of the nation’s premier cycling events. Kids rides will be held both days for children 9 and under and are free. The non-competitive Air Force Challenge Crystal Ride will be held Sunday at 7:30 am and registration is open to riders of all abilities.

Historic Garden Week Tour Scheduled for April 19th
The Garden Club of Virginia and The Garden Club of Fairfax are presenting the 78th Annual House and Garden Tour in Arlington & McLean, Virginia for Historic Garden Week on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 10-4. Tours benefit the restorations of historic gardens and landmarks in Virginia. According to the Historic Garden Week website, this year’s tour “will open a fascinating variety of homes and gardens. . . Architectural styles include Tudor Revival, modified Craftsman, cottage-rambler, Arts and Crafts, French Country, and one described by its owners as a “cross between a ranch and a Cape Cod on steroids.” Some are creatively renovated houses from the mid-20th century, while others were only recently constructed. Interior and garden designs are as eclectic as the exteriors, offering visitors a thoroughly enjoyable day of touring.”
The tour includes the following homes, all of which are open for the first time during Historic Garden Week:

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the tour. Advance tickets can be purchased at Calico Corners, Company Flowers Express Jewelers in Ballston Mall, Lemon Twist and Millie’s Dry Cleaning in Arlington. Tickets can be purchase don the day of the tour at Memorial Baptist Church, 3455 N. Glebe Road, Arlington or any of the properties open for the tour.

The Glencarlyn Spring Celebration and Plant Sale is an annual event. It will be held this year on April 20th, 2024 from 10-3 at the Glencarlyn Library Garden.

#347 – Watch “Arlington Idol”
The third annual Arlington Idol singing competition will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at Kenmore Middle School. Admission is free and open to the public. It will also be broadcast live on Comcast Cable Channel 72 and on the web. Each Arlington public high school selected one singer to participate in the contest and one runner-up to sing back up along with the US Army’s rock band “Downrage.” This year’s finalists are Mary Shields from H-B Woodlawn, Danyele Greenfield from Wakefield High School, Abir Haronni from Washington-Lee High School and Kate Mountain from Yorktown. Runners-up include Kyra Klontz of H-B Woodlawn,Tigist Worku of Wakefield, Mallory McKenzie of Washington-Lee and Rachel Gomberg from Yorktown. You will be able to cast your vote for Arlington Idol via text messaging. The link to watch online will be posted on the Army Band’s website the day of the competition along with voting instructions.
