Veteran’s Day is celebrated at Arlington National Cemetery with a National Ceremony to honor and thank all who served in the United States Armed Forces. The ceremony begins at 11:00 am with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier followed by a parade of colors and remarks from dignitaries at the Memorial Amphitheatre. Arrive early as parking is limited and you need to take a shuttle bus to the tomb/amphitheater. There will be a prelude concert inside the amphitheatre at 10:30 by The United States Air Force Band. Arlington will also be holding aWomen’s Memorial Veterans Day program on November 11th at 3 PM. The ceremony at the Memorial for Women in Military Service , is free and open to the public and will include formal military honors, a keynote address, veterans’ remarks, and a wreath laying.
Memorial Day 2010 Observance at Arlington National Cemetery
Several events are going on this weekend at Arlington National Cemetery to observe Memorial day. Over 250,000 American flags were placed on the gravesites by the Old Guard in a tradition called “Flags In” and they will remain on the gravesites until Monday evening. A new “Price of Freedom” statue was unveiled on May 29th, 2010 and will be on display in the Visitor’s Center. And a Memorial Day Observance ceremony will be held on Monday at 10:30 am at the amphitheatre with a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers at 11. Plan to arrive early as access to the amphitheatre will be limited for security reasons. It is suggested that visitors plan to be at the amphitheatre or the Tomb of the Unknowns by 9:30 a.m.
