All four Arlington high schools were ranked in the top two percent of high schools in the nation according to this year’s Newsweek rankings. Based on The Washington Post challenge index ranking schools based on AP and IB tests, HB Woodlawn ranked highest among the Arlington schools followed by Washington-Lee High School, Yorktown and Wakefield respectively.
Three Arlington Elementary Schools Recognized by Governor
Arlington Traditional School, Arlington Science Focus Elementary School, and McKinley Elementary School have earned the 2010 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence, the highest honor under the Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) incentive program which promotes advanced learning and achievement.
Nine other Arlington elementary schools earned the earned the Board of Education Excellence Award, the second-tier honor in the VIP program. And three schools, including Washington Lee High School, earned the Board of Education Competence to Excellence Award.
