Arlington’s Four High Schools Rank in Top 100 in Challenge Index
H-B Woodlawn tops the list of area high schools in The Washington Post’s 2010 Challenge Index which measures a public high school’s effort to challenge all of its students. Three of the four Arlington high schools finished in the top ten, with Washington-Lee High School at Number 6 and Yorktown High School at #10. Wakefield High School also made the top 100 with the #53 spot.
Arlington Named One of Top 7 Intelligent Communities of the Year
Arlington County announced in a press release today that they are one of two U.S. Communities to be named one of the 2010 Top Seven Communities of the Year by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF).
Three Arlington Elementary Schools Recognized by Governor
Arlington Traditional School, Arlington Science Focus Elementary School, and McKinley Elementary School have earned the 2010 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence, the highest honor under the Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) incentive program which promotes advanced learning and achievement.
Nine other Arlington elementary schools earned the earned the Board of Education Excellence Award, the second-tier honor in the VIP program. And three schools, including Washington Lee High School, earned the Board of Education Competence to Excellence Award.
Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 17th
Arlington County will hold a tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. at Thomas Jefferson Auditorium Sunday, January 17, 2010 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
The tribute will include united gospel choirs from area churches, award winning Washington – Lee Jazz Big Band, the 2010 Dr. Martin Luther King Essay Winners, and a volunteer open house to showcase ways to serve on Martin Luther King’s Birthday and throughout the year.
Santa arrives in Clarendon December 12th!
Clarendon Market Common holds its 9th Annual Winter Wonderland Event on Saturday, December 12th from 5pm – 7pm. The highlight of the evening, the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus by fire engine, is scheduled for 5:30pm. Activities include free photos with Santa, musical performances, and special offers.
