Join Virginia Hospital Center Foundation for its first Family Fun Day, a free outdoor health and fitness festival on September 26 from noon to 4pm. Healthy food vendors, live music and performances, exercise demonstrations, health and safety information, and health screenings will be available. This event will educate and entertain the whole family.
Clarendon Day Set for September 26th
The 12th Annual Clarendon Day, billed as “Arlington’s Biggest Party” is set for Saturday, September 26th, 2009 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Prior to the event there will be a Friday night kickoff at Whitlow’s with three bands beginning at 9:30 p.m. and a 5K/10K/Fun Run Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. Two stages will host musical performances throughout the day and a kids’ stage will have puppet shows and other entertainment for children. Many area food vendors will be set up along the street and local artists and retailers will be on display. Most activities will take place on Clarendon Blvd. and Wilson Blvd. between Highland and Irving Streets.
Arlington Plans An Emergency Response System Full-Scale Exercise For Sept. 26th
Arlington County and surrounding Counties will be performing several emergency response system full-scale exercises on September 26th, 2009. The Arlington exercise will take place in the Crystal City area where there will be a simulated vehicle-based bomb, targeting a large group of people in the vicinity of train tracks, creating multiple victims. To add to the complexity of the incident, the scenario dictates that a CSX rail car was damaged in the explosion, creating a hazardous materials situation. In all, the scenario is designed to test the capabilities of incident management and coordination of pre-hospital and medical surge resources. The exercise will begin at 9 a.m. and will run for approximately three hours. Area residents may notice a number of public safety vehicles in the vicinity during the exercise.
Exercises will also be held in Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William Counties on the same day.

World Car Free Day
President Obama will give speech at Wakefield High School September 8th
Arlington Public Schools re-open for classes on Tuesday, September 8th and the first day will feature a special guest for one Arlington school. President Obama will be giving a national back-t0-school addres at Wakfefield High School. The speech will be broadcast live on C-SPAN and the White House Web site. The school was apparently chosen for the speech, intended to motivate students to work hard, set educational goals and take personal responsibility for their learning, because of its history of success with disadvantaged students.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Presidential Visit Road Closures
ARLINGTON, VA. – The Arlington County Police Department will close roads
around Wakefield High School on Tuesday, September 8, for a school visit
by President Obama.
The following road closures/detours will take effect at 9 a.m.:
* Traffic coming from South George Mason Drive on South
Dinwiddie Street will be diverted at South 14th Street to King Street
(school buses will be allowed to proceed to the school).
* Traffic on Chesterfield Road from Claremont Elementary will be
diverted south on South Buchanan Street (school buses will be allowed to
proceed to school).
* Traffic on Chesterfield Road from King Street will be diverted
to South Dinwiddie Street towards Walter Reed Drive.
* Traffic on South Dinwiddie from Walter Reed Drive will be
diverted to Chesterfield Road towards King Street.
* Pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be not allowed in the rear
of the school (the football stadium side).
* Westbound traffic on South Buchanan, South Columbus, and South
Culpeper Streets from Walter Reed Drive will be closed at Chesterfield
Road.
The following parking restrictions will be in place from 6 a.m. to 3
p.m.:
* Parking will be restricted on Chesterfield Road on both sides
between South Buchanan Street to the Chesterfield/Dinwiddie traffic
circle.
* Parking will be restricted on South Dinwiddie Street between
South George Mason Drive and Chesterfield Road.”
