The Arlington Public Schools Summer Activities Fair will be held on Fri, Feb. 10 from 6-8 p.m. at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center, 3501 S. 2nd Street.  Come check out activities offered this summer from over 100 different camps and organizations.  Programs include  APS Summer School, Arlington County Parks and Recreation, academic and art programs, day camps, sport camps, overnight camps and camps offering accommodations for children with special needs.  To see the complete list of programs  go to this site.  Teens looking for work and/or volunteer opportunities can also get information during the event of organizations that need assistance.

Join Arlington’s Children & Nature Network for a Winter Nature Celebration

Chick-fil-A at the Ballston Common Food Court and the Arlington Children and Nature Network are holding a Winter Nature Celebration on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 10am to 2pm.  Come to the lower level of the mall near Chick-fil-A.   (If Arlington Public Schools announces activities are closed that day due to inclement weather then it will be moved to February 18th. This free event will include activities to learn about nature and how to enjoy our urban environment, even in winter, including crafts, exhibits, a kid-friendly walk of the Ballston neighborhood led by WalkArlington, and refreshments including hot beverages courtesy of Chick-fil-A.  The 45 minute walk will begin at 11 am.  For more information or to RSVP, email office@arlingtonenvironment.org or call 703-228-6427.

Join members of the Northern Virginia Bird Club on Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 from 9:30-12:00 for an informal walk through Long Branch and Glencarlyn Parks in search of resident and migratory birds. Experienced and beginning birders welcome. Bring binoculars and field guides. The event is free but registration is recommended at https://registration.arlingtonva.us, Program #622942-C. Check out Crystal Couture

Crystal Couture
This annual event will be held February 7th to February 11th, 2012 from 6-10 PM at 1750 Crystal Drive in Arlington. Crystal Couture is a fashion show and high-end bargain and trunk sale bringing over 40 of the area’s most stylish boutiques and designers all under one roof.   Shoppers will also be treated to free make-up and hair makeovers, have a chance to talk with fashion consultants, and enjoy music from DJ Neekola. This year’s event includes America’s Next Top Model contestant Bianca Charde.

Come to the Campbell Wetlands Benefit Concert

A benefit concert to raise money for the Campbell Elementary School Wetlands Learning Lab will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 – from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the school which is located at 737 S. Carlin Springs Road in Arlington.  Tickets are $10 per family at the door. The event will include music from Forty Miles Home and Groovy Nate, Bolivian Dance, Family Yoga and more activities plus refreshments and a Silent Auction. Proceeds from tickets and the silent auction will go toward the construction of an outdoor wetlands area in the Campbell schoolyard that will provide outdoor play and learning opportunities while returning the environment to a more natural state and creating an eco-corridor of wildlife with neighboring Long Branch Nature Center.  For more information about the Campbell Elementary Wetlands Learning Lab, click the link.

Come to the Grand Opening of the Yorktown Aquatics Center

Grand Opening festivities at the Yorktown Aquatics Center begin at 12 PM on Sunday, January 15th, 2012 with a  Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and will be followed by an afternoon of aquatic activities including water aerobics classes, an introduction to SCUBA, a Senior Water Polo workshop, an introductory clinic of triathlon training techniques, Synchronized swimming demonstrations, pee wee water polo, and an adults co-ed water polo match.  Lap swimming will also be available throughout the day.  For the complete Yorktown Aquatics Center Open House Schedule, click this link. Admission will be FREE on Sunday.

The new facility will contain an 8-lane by 25 yards competition pool with a  diving well, and a separate instructional pool.
 A wet classroom, available for pool party rentals, and a spectator area overlooking the pools are also available.

The new pool will resume  its winter schedule on Tuesday, January 17.
